ARTES VIVAS

Alone Together
Perfomance de Joanna Brabo (España)

Estreno

Alone Together is a performance, a piece of live art that invites the viewer to experience their intimacy through their senses. A fast-paced journey through different realities, common and everyday situations where themes such as anxiety, abusive relationships, belonging, the feminine and quitting smoking form the common thread of these stories intertwined in a vertiginous poetic prose.

Alone Together takes up and honors the musical theme of that name, a contemporary classic performed by Miles Davis, Chet Baker and Bill Evans. Alone but together: united by jazz, by art, by words. United by the cell phone, by melancholy, by distance. United, isolated, connected by loneliness.

The piece was pre-premiered at the Teatro la Gleva, Barcelona (where the artist has been a resident), to excellent reviews. The premiere and launch of the text of the show in audiobook format will take place in March in Barcelona. The official premiere in Mexico City will be at the Museo Universitario del Chopo. As part of an international tour, it will be performed in New York at the Kerouac Festival.

Somnis de Teatres, Gema Moraleda's Spanish theater critic blog, remarks that “The voice is one of a performer’s most powerful tools. Any text multiplies its evocative effects if told in a good voice. A well-placed, practiced, nuanced voice can send us on a journey to other places, other moments, other sensations, other emotions. And it is clear that Joana Brabo knows well that using only her voice and a few sound effects she carries us from city to city, from situation to situation, to the rhythm of the anxiety about an unlit cigarette. This is a tribute to the word, to the story, to poetry.”
